This year’s program will begin on Tuesday, December 6 at 6:00, and will meet in room H13. All materials will be provided for the first meeting, although students should bring pencils and calculators.
Any student may attend this session at no cost. An identical meeting will take place on Wednesday, December 7 at 6:00. Interested students should attend one of these meetings; each session will run two hours. If you decide to enroll in this course, you will need to purchase a workbook- more info concerning this purchase will be forthcoming. The course will meet twice a week from 6:00-8:00. Students should attend ONE session each week. The meeting days will be Tuesday and Wednesday and Thursday will be a make-up day if a scheduled session is unable to meet. The course will end the second week in March, and will not meet during December or February vacations. There will be a total of twelve two-hour class sessions. The cost of the course is $300 and is due as soon as possible, but not later than the third week in December. Class size will be limited. Each week, the following format will occur. We will begin with a few challenging math problems. We then take the weekly vocabulary test, and correct it. We next will look at the week’s math homework and trouble-shoot any problems that students indicated were especially difficult. I will demonstrate traditional methods for solving the problems, as well as providing alternative approaches (these are especially helpful). We will discuss/apply exercises focusing on evidence-based reading and writing and the effective use of language. Each week will also have a special focus. For example, we may work on essay writing or solve math problems in a time-restricted situation. Test-taking strategies will also be discussed.
